Working in partnership with the CAP Team at City Housing, we are creating a tenant theatre company – an open group for any city housing tenants with a burning desire for, or gentle curiosity about performance art. Having worked over the years with a number of city housing tenants on various projects, we know there’s a huge wealth of creative talent out there and we intend harnessing that talent on and off stage. The Company will be perform twice a year – a fun family show for Christmas and a devised theatre production mid year.

My Memories of Home – Premiere
The culmination of our storytelling project with older City Housing tenants was the premiere of …’my memories of home…’ a short film capturing the storytelling and musical talents of our 9 participants. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive. This film now plays to the pubic as part of the visitor experience at the Colonial Cottage. To view the film click here. Thanks to our partners on this project – Community Action Programme, City Housing, Wellington City Council and Wellington Museum.
CRC Book and DVD Launch
It was a leap of faith for the 25 Community Room Coordinators (CRC) we began working with back in September 2014. We were asking them to get creative but we just didn’t know what the collection of all that creativity would finally look like. But now we do! A stunning book and DVD holds this unique collection of poems, art, story, song and film. Especially significant is the documentary that sits along side the collection that follows the project’s development. CRC Bruce Hurley holds his copy!
‘Walk in my Shoes’ Launch
When you work on a film project there is always an anxious wait between finishing the creative work and seeing the final product. For the participants the project stops, yet it hasn’t finished. So it was wonderful to finally bring together all the participants in our Transitions film project to show them the final outcome. The first thing they noticed was the working title of the project had been replaced with the final title ‘Walk in my Shoes’. There were flowers, speeches, a high tea and time to reflect on the experience. “You gave us a voice, and we thank you” said Dorothy Thompson pictured here with her husband Vince. ‘Walk in my Shoes’ is now being shown across the country to Ryman staff and management.
Team Development Idea Services
We spent a a day with the team from Idea Service’s Alpha Art Studio. The staff here are enormously generous in spirit and give so much to their clients, it was wonderful to spend a day nurturing them. We invited the team to explore the gifts and burdens of responsibility and how to maximise their wellbeing in a work environment that is extremely demanding.

We are partnering with the British Council and the Goethe-Institut on a community based, devised theatre project exploring the role of women in WW1. This project will begin in May and will involve a diverse group of 6-8 women who will be supported in the creation of a performance piece that will premiere on November 11th, Armistice Day, in the Grand Hall at Parliament.
