Months of creative and thoughtful exploration on the theme of peace; personal, local and global has led to the creation of new theatre work ‘Take From My Palms.’ Voice Arts has been working in partnership with Wellington East Girls’ College on this project to mark International Women’s Day. Pirates and Parrots
Congratulations to our tenant drama group, the DIY Collective, who premiered their third devised theatre work in front of a big crowd. This time they tackled comedy creating a pirate play. The audience provided an authentic laugh track and rousing applause, reward for a hard working cast who refused to let nerves get in the way of a great performance.
Empathy and Understanding – Film Project
Following the success of our social housing radio drama project in partnership with Radio New Zealand, we are continuing to explore themes of diversity: celebrating and embracing difference with social housing tenants in a new film project supported by City Housing and the Office of Ethnic Communities.
Community Weavers
We are excited to begin a new storytelling and performance project in The Hutt celebrating the work of community weavers: the people and organisations who work to connect people to support, to services, to their neighbours, and to each other.
Peace – a Girl’s Perspective
In partnership with Wellington East Girls’ College we are creating a new devised theatre work exploring peace from the diverse perspectives of a multi-cultural group of 14/15 years olds. Starting from the personal we look out to the local and the global. This production will premiere on March 8th International Women’s Day, at Te Papa.
The Pride Awards
Voice Arts will be presenting two of these fantastic awards in a couple of weeks when they are presented to a deeply deserving group of young people at parliament.
Korero at Parihaka
We’ve been visiting Parihaka to seed the possibilities of a collaborative project. The korero was rich and fruitful and we were hosted with great manaakitanga. Wellington East Girls College are joining us on this journey and we look forward to working with them.
DIY’s Annual Devised Theatre Project
It’s that time of year again and our tenant drama company begins work on their annual devised performance. The group has expanded to welcome a number of fresh new faces. The group will perform at WCC Christmas events in December.
Te Papa
We have a great history of using Museums as spaces for community creative expression. As our national Museum, Te Papa, embarks on a renewal of all its long term exhibits, we’ve been invited to offer our feedback on some of the initial concepts. It’s great to be one of voices in this significant process.
Small Windows on Big Stories
A wonderful launch of our Small Windows on Big Stories radio dramas and partner book. Hosted by the Mayor, our tenant authors shared their experience of the project and what it is like being a first time author on National Radio. A great day!
